As temperatures rise around Los Angeles, it’s all too tempting to stay inside in the safety of your air-conditioning. The heat might make you feel lethargic or just spent as soon as you leave the house. Despite the oppressive oncoming heat, it’s important to get out into the sun and take get active. Don’t waste the summer watching the newest release on Netflix – that’s for winter!

If you want to find a way to beat the heat while still staying active, look no further – we’ve compiled a short list of ideas for simple activities to keep you out, active, and having fun without breaking too much of a sweat.

  • Hit the Beach
    • Going to the beach may be an obvious choice for those living in the LA area to get out of the house during the summer, that doesn’t mean it isn’t worth it! Going to the beach doesn’t necessarily mean just lying in the sand or getting sunburned – there’s a ton to do around the shore itself! Get a kite and practice flying it around in the breeze, get a game of volleyball going with friends, or walk, rollerblade, or skateboard around the boardwalk.
  • Visit a Theme Park
    • This fun-for-the-whole-family option is a tried and true option for low-effort fun this summer for you, your friends, and your family. Disneyland, Universal Studios, or Six Flags might be the most obvious options within driving distance, but this area has many other parks to choose from to give you a break from the swarming crowds. Check out Knott’s Berry Farm, Two Bit Circus, Pacific Park, or Legoland for a more unique theme park experience nearby.
  • Take a Day Trip
    • There’s nothing better to beat the heat than feeling the wind on your face as you drive down a countryside backroad. It’s a rare feeling around the LA area, but it’s possible if you take a fun summer daytrip outside of the city. Drive down and take a tram ride at Palm Springs Aerial Tramway, visit the San Diego Safari Park to see a variety of wildlife, have a cool lake-boating adventure on Lake Casitas, or go whale watching at a harbor in the area.

As the heat bores down upon us, it’s easy to stay inside and avoid any non-air conditioned activities as much as possible. Don’t let the heat stop you from having fun! Pack your sunscreen and have a day of low-effort activities to keep you engaged and active this summer.
